Service Learning: learning through social impact initiatives

Service Learning: learning through social impact initiatives

We consider civic engagement to be one of the foundations of our children’s education. For this reason, the Service Learning Program at PASB encourages students to propose and implement projects that benefit the community, engage other students, and foster social responsibility.

Our students actively participate in a variety of social impact projects, establishing partnerships with social organizations and local, national, and international institutions.

These projects are designed and implemented entirely by the students and enable them to explore their capacity to transform realities. Starting with an idea, their projects develop an enriching scope, both for the benefited institutions and for our students, preparing them to become responsible global citizens, who understand different cultures, care about social and environmental issues, and have a well-established sense of ethics, equity, and justice.

This program reflects PASB’s philosophy and values, while also being an experience that allows our students to gain the necessary knowledge to lead more complex projects in the future.

PASB’s community service is open to participation at all school levels.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

CAS is part of the IB Diploma Programme and aims to balance the development of academic and personal abilities through High School, on the basis of the IB student profile.

CAS activities frequently take place outside the classroom and include creative activities such as visual and dramatic arts, music, sports, and social impact initiatives, focusing on creating young leaders who have a sense of solidarity and are engaged in human challenges.

The projects developed on CAS are a necessary requirement for obtaining the IB Diploma and include activities that benefit orphanages, care homes, low-income neighborhoods, homeless people, sport education for children, and art projects.

CAS Awarded Projects

Colorindo Vidas

“Coloring Lives” (Colorindo Vidas) is a Service Learning project created at PASB that performs several initiatives in our local community. The main actions are visits to Lar Vida, a non-profit organization that shelters children, teenagers, and adults with disabilities. These visits bring art, music, theater, P.E., and other activities to the members of this institution. Maria Clara B., PASB Alumni and founder of the project, was given the AMISA Citizen Award in 2022 and explains more about the project: “We make campaigns to get donations of food, clothing, medicine, diapers, and milk. We also hold motivational talks for parents and students to encourage them to engage in social work to help those who need it.”

Green PASB

The Green PASB project, created by PASB students Malu C. and Catarina L., aims to promote sustainability and care for the environment within the PASB community. Implementing actions to raise awareness about environmental conservation and preservation, the initiative, in addition to promoting educational actions to raise awareness among society in general, promotes sustainable practices, such as cleaning beaches, collecting plastic materials and electronic waste, as well as installing compost bins at the school. The project received the AMISA Global Citizen Award in 2024.

FloreSER

Project FloreSER, led by PASB students Ester S., founder and president, and Maria Paula B., vice president, empowers young girls and women by equipping them with financial education and communication skills. It goes beyond raising awareness about gender equality, taking concrete action by providing support, classes, lectures, workshops, and resources to empower women in Salvador’s communities. By fostering knowledge and self-assurance, FloreSER helps participants take control of their futures, advocate for their rights, and actively engage in the economy as catalysts for change. The project received the AMISA Global Citizen Award in 2025.
